Do you struggle with the concept of a New Year’s Resolution? Do you buckle under the pressure of obligation? Does having a bevy of “shoulds” hanging over your head dampen any sense of excitement you have about beginning a fresh, new year?
Maybe your answer is, “No.” Maybe you thrive on setting goals, big or small, and you relish the idea of self-improvement, greater productivity, or more joy that fulfilling your resolutions will bring.
But, always: Know thyself. And, if you know thyself well enough to dread the annual resolution-setting, but want to make some changes in you life, I have a proposition for you.
Don’t resolve. Instead, give.
Give yourself the gift of whatever it is that your body, mind, spirit or soul craves.
As for me, I am giving myself the gift of more sleep and an earlier bedtime. I am also giving myself the gift of more attention to my emotional energy and how I expend it. Finally, I am giving myself the gift of grace.
What gifts will you choose to give yourself this new year?
Excellent take on the new year. I like your twist. You have given me some things to think about. Even at 70 we don’t have it all figured out! 🙂
Let me know when you do get it all figured out! 😉
