I’m a few posts into this now and wanted to share some words about the direction I hope this blog will go.  Let me just start all this by saying I want to be responsive to the community.  I really do mean it when I say I want to explore wellness together.  So, if you want to communicate with me privately about what you would like to see on here, hop to my Facebook page and send me a direct message.

I chose the title of this blog very carefully.  One of the reasons I have put off starting a blog is that preaching to folks about fitness was not something that interested me very much from the blog perspective.  (Surely my clients are snickering right now because they have felt preached to in my classes from time-to-time!)

Fitness, wellness, health – whatever you want to call it – it’s constantly evolving.  We know more today than we did yesterday and we will know more tomorrow than today.  I love that the field is so dynamic, and exploring it is one of my greatest passions.  But, I honor that dynamism.  I can only speak to what I know right now and am hungry to know more.  I happen to believe that the pursuit of that knowledge is more fun and more gratifying if done with others by my side.

Further, and to be frank, I just don’t really enjoy reading blogs that tell me what to do.  But I love blogs that help me think about things in a new way, that prompt me to ask questions of myself and others, and open my eyes to a way of thinking that might not have occurred to me otherwise.  Those blogs are worth my time and attention.

So, with all this in mind, I would like to share Exploring Wellness’s Core Values:

Curiousity

Humility

Empathy

Community

On these pages I will pursue questions that interest me with a curious mind.  I will approach them with the humility of knowing my own limitations and the limitations of science.  My heart will be open to the feelings of others whose journeys differ from my own, and I hope that they will join me in creating this space.

One final note – you may wonder why I’ve used my name for the URL.  The simple answer is, have you tried to purchase a URL lately?  The good ones are all taken!  The even simpler answer is that a few years ago my husband bought our name URLs.  In other words, this one had already been paid for!

Loving and learning from the blog already. You were one of my first Atlanta running /walking buddies and I know this will be a fun journey to be a part of with you!
